ETCHIA: Biography


Emmanuel Teh Chia born in Mmen in Menchum Division of the North West Province of Cameroon on August 30th 1979. Attended Catholic Primary School Mutengene and got the FSLC (1984-1991), Government High School Tiko and passed 7 GCE subjects (1991-1998), University of Buea and graduated with BSc in Journalism & Mass Communications(1999-2002), The Ecole Nationale des Assistants des Affaires Sociales-ENAAS Yaounde and came out as APAS(2004-2006) and MSc in Public Health at the University of Bedfordshire (2009-2010).

Before travelling to the UK in October 2008, I had served my beloved country-Cameroon in different regions and different capacities: Part-time Journalist at CRTV Bafoussam (2002-2004), Family Liaison Officer at the Bafoussam Central Prison (April-December 2006), Divisional Family Welfare Officer for Menchum Division (Jan 2007- Oct 2008).

While in the UK, I worked at Travelodge Hotel as Receptionist, University of Bedfordshire as Graduation/Registration support staff and now currently working as Community Home Health Care Assistant with Radis Community Care. During my student life, I was campus Journalist in GHS Tiko; being the first to initiate and run the Literary Club, I was elected Public Relations Officer for Faculty of Social and Management Sciences Students' Association and also for the Association of Student Journalist of the University of Buea-2000/2001. I was elected course Representative and Faculty Representative for the faculty of Health and Social Sciences at the University of Bedfordshire-2009/2010.

I was the pionner Mmen indigent to become a Social Worker in Cameroon, Second to study and practice Journailsm (with the first being Hannah Njong who inspired me so much).

My greatest ambition is to strife to reach out for the stars so that my son (Ange Chia) should have a better life than I had.
